When I hear the word extra, I usually think of more.
More abundance.
More confirmation.
More clarity.
More obvious blessing.
It’s what I long for when I feel like I’m wandering—some kind of extra sign to show I’m on the right path.
An open door.
A miracle.
A breakthrough.
But lately, I’ve been wondering if maybe God’s “extra” doesn’t always look like more.
Maybe sometimes, it looks like just enough strength to get through the day.
Maybe it’s peace that doesn’t make sense.
Or a quiet thought that helps me hold on when everything feels like too much.
Maybe God’s extra doesn’t show up in the form of a platform or praise, but in the unseen ways He carries us through the days no one else claps for.
Because let’s be honest—when we picture abundance, we think of overflow.
But sometimes God gives extra grace for the season we’re in, not extra ease to get out of it.
Sometimes we pray for an extra sign… and what we get is an extra opportunity to trust.
That’s not the kind of extra we usually ask for.
But it might be the kind our soul actually needs.
So if you’ve been waiting for a miracle to prove God is with you—
If you’ve been begging for clarity, or confirmation, or a breakthrough that hasn’t come—
Take a second look at your ordinary day.
That breath you just took?
That quiet moment of stillness?
That gentle nudge to keep going, even when you want to quit?
Maybe that’s God’s extra today.
Not flashy.
Not Instagrammable.
But more than enough to keep you rooted in His love.
With love and belief in you,
P.S. I wrote this post as part of this week’s Five Minute Friday writing prompt, where writers reflect on a single word—in this case, extra.

We’re told to go the extra mile,
instead of one, go two,
and maintain a cheerful smile,
but that’s so hard to do
when you’re caught in worldly cares
and are tempted to see
humility as put-on airs,
and “Hey, what about ME?”
But you’ll note Jesus did not claim
this duty to be slight.
He said to do it in His name,
and done thus t’would be right,
an offering that we might bring
to lay before our Saviour-King.
It is amazing how our thoughts turn extra into meaning abundance. Yet often God gives us an abundance, an extra measure of Himself, and that is where we discover He is enough. Wonderful post!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
